A very unusual Derby porcelain leaf-shaped dish, dating to c1810.
The dish is decorated with finely painted roses and gold sprigs, (Derby Plate Pattern 401), the roses possibly the work of John Whitaker. Gilding is by Mundy Simpson, whose gilder's number appears at the footrim.
I have not seen another piece of Derby with this shape which, with its twig handle and leaf terminals, is typical for Meissen - it may possibly have been specially produced as a replacement for a Meissen dinner service.
In excellent condition and marked with the factory mark of crown, crossed batons, dots and D, which I think may have originally been painted in gold but discoloured over time. From the same time period as the red factory mark was in use.
Measures 8.5 inches long, 7 inches wide and 1.5 inches deep.
