An early 19th century Derby porcelain dessert dish, featuring the most luscious botanical study of "Brown Flowered Iris", possibly by Robert Brewer.
The hand painted study is simply amazing! Extremely detailed and beautifully executed, it is truly indicative of the very high standard of painting the artists at Derby reached.
The study is taken from Curtis's Botanical Magazine, which was published monthly from 1787 to the present day. Different sketches feature in the magazine each month, "Brown Flowered Iris" appearing in the 1808 edition, which means that the dish cannot pre-date this.
The dish is heart-shaped and in good condition. No chips, cracks, hairlines or restoration, but there is some wear to the gilded rim.
Marked with plant description in Latin and English and with factory mark, all in blue.
