The very rarest and most beautiful Chelsea cup and saucer, dating to c1759-69, Gold Anchor period.
The gilding on these pieces is of the very highest quality, left either matt or burnished and tooled to give a rich design of peacocks, pheasants and swallows in amongst leaves, ferns and flowers on a mazarine blue ground.  Both pieces have additional scrolling net gilding - the gilt produced by adding honey to gold to give the most sumptuous effect.
Both pieces marked with a gold anchor to the base and both in excellent condition.  Ground foot rims to cup and saucer and stilt marks to saucer.
I have been unable to find reference to any other pieces of this pattern, the only similar being a tea service in the Metropolitan Museum, Fifth Avenue, New York.
