A rare Chelsea gold anchor plate, c1760, of 'Warren Hastings' type, depicting animals in landscapes from Aesop's Fables, hand painted by Jefferyes Hamett O'Neale.
The three panels around the rim are edged with gold, and there is one large flower bouquets and several smaller sprays in the well of the plate.
Examples of this pattern are found with both brown and with gold line rims.  A similar gold rimmed example can be seen Illustrated by Rosalie Wise Sharp in Ceramics, Ethics and Scandal (2002) p.247, where it is said that it was the gold edged version that possibly belonged to Warren Hastings himself.
The Right Honourable Warren Hastings (1732-1818) was a British Colonial Administrator and Governor-General of India.
The plate is marked with a gold anchor and has stilt marks to base.  
Slight wear to gilding around the rim and a few light utensil marks.  Wear to the enamels of one flower, otherwise very good condition.
