A very fine Chelsea soup plate from the red anchor period, dating to c1750-53.
The plate is decorated with pairs of fancy birds around the rim, which is lobed and attractively moulded with leafy scrolls.  There is further decoration of sprays of flowers to the well of the plate with one larger bouquet, featuring a tulip and a rose.  Brown edged rim.
Marked with a red anchor.  There are the typical Chelsea stilt marks and ground foot rim.  The soup plate is in excellent condition, other than a tear in the clay to the underside during production, which has been glazed over (pictured) and which does not show through on the upper side.
