A superb Chelsea Derby small tureen and cover, once belonging to His Grace The Duke of Northumberland, K.G., and sold some years ago, along with other pieces from his service, by Sotheby's, London, The service was previously used at Alnwick Castle and Albury Park. (Sotheby's Catalogue 24th/25th October, 1966.)
Decorated with oeil-de-perdrix border in pale blue and with oval vignettes of pink roses and with further roses, scattered across the base and lid skillfully hand painted by Edward Withers. The gilding on this service is particularly fine.
Measures 20cm across, approx. 13cm wide and approx. 14cm tall, including cover.
Marked with crown and D and script "N" all in blue. The underside of the tureen base has been professionally restored, leaving a hairline crack still visible underneath. Please see photos.
